Renvyle Beach

Renvyle Beach

If you’re exploring the wild beauty of Connemara and craving a serene coastal stop, Renvyle Beach should be high on your list. Just a 25-minute drive northwest of Clifden, this secluded stretch of white sand and clear Atlantic water captures everything visitors love about Ireland’s untamed west coast, rugged scenery, peaceful seclusion, and views that stay with you long after your visit.

From Clifden, take the N59 north towards Letterfrack, then follow the Renvyle Peninsula road signs through Tully Cross. From there, it’s a short drive west to Tully Beg, where the beach is clearly signposted. The roads are narrow in places, but they’re part of the charm, winding past stone walls, tiny lakes, and fields that lead straight to the sea.

You’ll find a small car park right beside the beach, with space for around a dozen vehicles. It fills up quickly on sunny days, so arriving earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon is best. There are no public toilets or changing facilities, though guests at the nearby Renvyle Beach Caravan & Camping Park sometimes arrange to use their amenities (check locally, as this is at the discretion of the owners).

Renvyle Beach is as natural and unspoiled as they come, a long, curved bay of fine white sand, bordered by crystal-clear turquoise water. From the shoreline, you can see the dramatic outline of Mweelrea, Connacht’s highest mountain, rising across Killary Harbour on the Mayo border, and the silhouettes of offshore islands scattered across the Atlantic horizon.

It’s the perfect place for a quiet walk, a picnic, or simply to sit and breathe in the sea air. On calm days, the water is inviting for a paddle or swim, though note there are no lifeguards on duty. Adventurous visitors can also bring a kayak or stand-up paddleboard to explore the sheltered waters of the bay.

Sunsets here are spectacular, soft golden light over the mountains, and the ocean turning pink and silver as evening sets in. If you’re staying nearby, it’s worth timing your visit for dusk.

Renvyle Beach isn’t about facilities or fanfare, it’s about space, quiet, and nature at its most peaceful. For anyone touring the Clifden area and looking to unwind beside one of the west coast’s most picturesque beaches, Renvyle’s beauty is well worth the short drive.
