Western Way – Maam to Leenane

Take on the stunning Western Way route from Maam to Leenane in County Galway. This challenging 30 km course features difficult terrain and a 710 m climb, perfect for runners looking for a true test of endurance while enjoying some of Ireland’s most scenic landscapes. Organised by the Irish Mountain Running Association (IMRA). Suitable for experienced trail runners.
Location: Start at Maum, County Galway. (Meeting point Leenane)
Date: Saturday 14th November, 2026
Time: 10:00. All runners need to meet in Leenane at 9:00 am
Race Options:
- Course: 30.00 km with 710 m climb
Terrain: Difficult Terrain, >500M ascent, >10Km
Entry Limit: 250 participants

Mandatory Kit (Level B):
- Waterproof jacket
- Hat or buff
- Gloves
- Whistle
- Charged mobile phone (with emergency number saved)
- Foil blanket / bivvy bag (or equivalent)
Note: All runners must bring the above items. Required kit to be carried will be confirmed on the day depending on conditions. Random checks may occur. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.
