Queen of Connemara 200
Route Description:
This is a scenic route on good surfaces. It takes in all the Galway locations of Brevet Hiberniae. The route starts at Trá An Dóilin (Coral Strand) – this is one of the Brevet Hiberniae locations.
The route heads into Carraroe and going left you will pass through the townland with the longest placename in Ireland: Muiceanach Idir Dhá Sháile, also on Brevet Hiberniae. Crossing the bog from Rosmuc towards Cashel, the route turns north, includes 2k on the busy N59. Then into the Inagh Valley with spectacular views all around.
The first control is at Our Lady of the Wayside Church (61 km). Onwards to the Connemara Loop, through Tully Cross, Letterfrack (81 km) and another short stretch of main road until the turn to Cleggan. You’ll travel the Sky Road into Clifden that involves the only significant climb of the day. The Wild Atlantic Way viewpoint on the Sky Road is the second control (114 km) and also on Brevet Hiberniae. A quick descent leads into Clifden.
After Clifden you’ll cross the Roundstone Bog and on to Cashel, turning right for the last control of the day at Carna (156 km). Following the road as far as Screebe, you take a right down the Furnace road to Casla (193 km) where you turn right to An Cheathrú Rua and a lovely finish back at Trá an Dóilin.

Queen of Connemara 100
The Connemara 100 uses the same route as the “Queen of Connemara 200” as far as 37 km. It has plenty of spectacular scenery, including sea, bog and mountains.
The 100 km route turns left on the R340 at 37 km, signposted Glinsce / Carna. Take a right turn at 44 km onto L1207 signed Leitreach Ard. Follow this road to Carna where there may be a community café in the Carna Bay Hotel on Saturday morning and shops (c. 55 km) and filling station (56 km).
The second half to Screebe undulates gently and rewards with fabulous views of Inishmor and Kilkieran Bay. At 77 km you’ll pass Padraig Pearse’s Cottage and visitors centre in Rosmuc (icpconamara.ie). Turn right at Screebe (82 km) and right again in Casla (93 km), with a lovely last stretch back to the start.
Take note: there are no shops on the route between Carraroe (21 km) and Carna (73 km), so ensure you are sufficiently provisioned for this stretch.
