Connemara is also world-famous for its fishing. In Lough Corrib, salmon, trout, some pike and perch, abound and the Lough is truly a magnificent island studded lake. April is especially good for wet-fly anglers and the lake is internationally known for its unique mayfly fishing.
Connemara is also famous for its sturdy and intelligent breed of Connemara pony, raised in its tiny fields and limestone pastures for generations, with an international reputation and popularity that forms the basis of an important export business. An exclusive Connemara Pony Breeders’ Association has been established and an annual Connemara Pony Show and Sale, held in Clifden each August, is the focus of attention by horse-lovers, breeders and buyers from many lands.
